THE ROYAL OAK CONCEPT THROUGH THE EUROPA STAR ARCHIVES
For Europa Star, we wrote an in-depth archival article tracing the Royal Oak Concept back to its 2002 launch, when Audemars Piguet presented CW1 as a true “concept car” for haute horlogerie. Using Europa Star’s own archive issues as primary sources, we reconstructed the context of the early 2000s and showed how the Concept became a laboratory for new materials, disruptive ergonomics and extreme mechanics, from the Renaud & Papi calibre designed as a dial, to shock resistance, linear indications and aerospace-grade case construction.
The piece connects that original milestone to the collection’s long-term legacy, following how the Concept evolved into a standalone line and a testing ground for innovations such as forged carbon, advanced chronograph architectures and headline complications. The result is a narrative that reads like a timeline of experimentation, and positions the Royal Oak Concept as the brand’s supercar, built to preview what comes next.
